May E-Chamber News 2016

May starts the season where we begin to enjoy visitors coming to our area to enjoy the many things we have to offer.  The Chamber will be directing people to our website where members are posting events on our community calendar.  Be sure to contact us if you have an event planned for this summer and we will work with you to be sure it is posted.  Our Welcome Center will be open weekends starting June 18 th.  We will be selling discount tickets for Funtown and the Old Orchard Beach Surge.  Our hours will be 8-12 AM Saturday and Sunday until early September. Please stop by and see all we have to offer.

Save The Date:  Our 30 th Annual Chamber Auction will be held on Saturday, November 5 th from 6-11PM at the Rochambeau Club in Biddeford.  Details and plans are still being finalized but the good news is we have grown and we needed a larger venue.  We have also moved the event to a Saturday instead of Friday so people can be less rushed and can stay longer.  We are planning to offer dancing and socializing after the live auction so plan to make it a fun evening with us.

The new edition of the Chamber Community Directory and Visitor Guide will be available very soon.  I want to thank Fred O'Neil for doing a great job with the layout and design and special thanks to the Journal Tribune for keeping the printing local.  We will be distributing the new books as soon as we have then delivered.

There is still time to advertise your business at our 64 th annual golf tournament at Dutch Elm Golf Course in Arundel.  Several sponsorships are still available as well as hole signs on every tee box to get your business noticed.  Our tournament is sold out and we want to thank all the teams and players for their support.  Contact Estella if you want to join in the fun and get your business noticed.

Thank you for your support.

With about a month or so until Opening Day at The BallPark in Old Orchard Beach, we are in full operations mode preparing for our players arrival.  Their ETA is roughly May 30, 2016, and plan to receive a warm welcoming from their host family.  Unfortunately, at the current moment, we do not have enough host families for our players!
These players are traveling all across the country to do one thing, and one thing only - to live out their dream of playing professional baseball. We, as a professional organization, have a NO tolerance policy for any disrespect, or breaking any rules/regulations.  They are here to work at their job every single day, until the season is over and they report back to their families.  Not only are they traveling across the country by themselves, they are making the sacrifice to leave their wife(s), young & new born children, and other influential people in their life(s), just to be able to play for our team.
If there is one thing in this world to do to help them, it would be welcoming them into a household for the months of June and July.  Providing them with shelter is the only responsibility being a host family.  NO food, NO transportation is required by you, being a host family - just accommodating them with a bed to sleep in is all they need.
We need YOU to step up to the plate. So please, anything helps!
Who knows, YOU could be the family to give shelter to a future Major League Baseball Player!
Please email Surge General Manager,
Alex Markakis, , OR, call The BallPark directly, 207-205-6160, if you can help out in any way.
Open: Monday - Friday (8 am - 4:30 pm)
